Water Campaign in Los Angeles
Water Campaign in Los Angeles

An on-going eight-year drought has depleted water supplies and there is no end in sight due to Climate Change. California is currently facing water rationing and mandatory conservation measures. An array of measures are needed to address the water crisis, ranging from huge infrastructure projects to incentivizing water conservation and reuse.
Education also plays a very important role – local organizations, elected officials and the LA community must be engaged and reached. All benefit from awareness of the benefits of conservation, capturing more of our rainfall and urban runoff, and increasing the use of recycled water. We can avert a severe water shortage if residents use water more conscientiously and if public officials and water agencies promote sustainable solutions that will lead to reliable, local water supplies.
Water Campaign
In order to address the need for raising awareness about the water crisis, and to promote sustainable, local solutions, we propose to help convene a Greater LA Water Campaign. The campaign will include the following:
•Conduct water educational training and workshops throughout the city geared towards community based organizations, schools, elected officials and community leaders.
•Build a base of people, including youth, who can educate their communities and their local elected officials to participate in public meetings on water issues.
•Develop a succinct and visual “Guide to Southern California Water - Issues & Solutions.”
•Coordinate and encourage the participation of community members at water relevant forums and public meetings seeking community participations and input on local and statewide water policy
•Organize viewings of water focused documentaries and Q&A sessions with water experts
•Provide training information in MP3 format for podcasts
Partners
This campaign is being led by the Green LA Coalition in partnership with Urban Semillas, Environmental Justice Coalition for Water and the Southern California Watershed Alliance and made possible with funding from the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles.
We are in the process of developing the campaign and will be launching it soon. If you are interested in being part of the training or know of a group that would benefit from exposure to water issues, please send us an email with contact information at watercampaign@marchforwater.com.
